The Calm (Before The Storm?)

Things here at work are much, much calmer this morning, pretty much because everything works right now...

The Redhead and I went to a sneak preview of The Ringer last night, which is the Johnny Knoxville movie about the Special Olympics. Pretty standard "boy is desperate, boy does something highly immoral for the good of someone else, boy meets girl and has to lie to her, boy falls in love with girl, boy tries to rig the Special Olympics, boy repents" type movie. Fun, brainless, and not badly-written.

The screening was held by the Kentucky chapter of the Special Olympics, to give local special ed. teachers and parents of children with special needs the chance to see the film and comment on it before the national release. With very few exceptions, the audience really seemed to enjoy the film. I was impressed at how well the film stayed away from the trap of mocking the Special Olympians themselves...
